Deacon David McElveen,
Business Manager
Deacon David H. McElveen is the
Church Administrator of the Fort Foote Baptist Church in
Fort Washington, Maryland. The Church, under the
Pastoral leadership of Reverend Joseph W. Lyles,
consists of 1400 members, 33 Deacons, 31 Ministers, 6
Choirs and 40 Ministries. The Church is affiliated with
the Southern Baptist and the D. C. Baptist Conventions.
Deacon McElveen currently serves as President of the D.
C. Baptist Convention.
Deacon McElveen has been member of Fort Foote Baptist
Church since 1979. He has served the Church in several
capacities, including Deacon since 1985, the
constitution and Finance Committees since 1990 and 1981
respectively. He also served as Church Treasurer from
1981 through 1999. He began serving as Church
Administrator in 1998.
Deacon McElveen is a retired U. S. Air Force Colonel and
Command Pilot, retiring after 26 years of service in
1979. He is also a retired George Washington University
Student Affairs Administrator, retiring after 19 years
in 1998.
He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in
Chemistry from North Carolina A & T University, and a
Master of Engineering Administration Degree from the
George Washington University. He is also a graduate of
the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in
Washington, D. C.
During his Military career, Deacon McElveen earned a
number of awards including the Distinguished Flying
Cross and four Air Medals for extraordinary achievement
while flying Airplanes over Viet Nam in 1966 and 1967.
He has been an active member of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity since 1951. He is Business Manager of The
Network of Church Administration in Maryland and past
Treasurer of The D. C. Metro Chapter of National
Association of Church Business Administration.
Deacon McElveen is a native of Florence County, South
Carolina. He is the eldest of four sons born to William
H. and Creola D. McElveen. He accepted Christ at the age
of 13, and was a member of the Armwell Missionary
Baptist Church in Pamplico, South Carolina until he
began his Air Force Career. He has been married to the
former Miss M. Elizabeth Swilley, of Marianna, Florida
since March 1954. The McElveens have one daughter, one
son, five granddaughters, one great grandson and one
great-granddaughter.
